Portland Car Dealer: 2012 Hyundai Accent SE Impresses In Initial Review
With the award-winning Hyundai Elantra hogging the attention from auto publications over the last 18 months, it’s easy to overlook the fact that Hyundai is producing multiple top-rated vehicles. Enter the all-new 2012 Accent.
As Motor Trend reports, the 2012 Accent has taken a few of the most popular features from its “older brother” for the latest versio
n. While the most noticeable similarity is the Accent’s new “fluidic” exterior shape, it also has improved power and an impressive 6.1% increase in fuel economy from the 2011 model.
The 2012 Accent is offered in two different options, a five-speed manual and six-speed auto. Hyundai’s new “Gamma” 1.6-liter engine results in 138 horsepower and 123 pound-feet of torque, easily exceeding that of the Accent’s closest rivals. It also utilizes Elantra technology to achieve over 40 MPG: dual continuously variable valve timing, internal friction reduction, and homogenous direct injection.
The Accent is significantly lighter than other Hyundai sedans and competitors, weighing in at just 2,562 pounds. The 195/50-16 Kumho Solus KH25 tires provide an ultra-smooth and quiet drive on the highway, while the steering was said to possess “the best motor-driven electric steering in the [Hyundai] lineup”.

Portland Car Dealer: 2012 Hyundai Accent Turns Heads at the New York Auto Show
Hyundai is using the New York Auto Show to reveal its weapon to dominate the subcompact car segment: the all-new 2012 Hyundai Accent. As Motor Trend reports, the 2012 Accent is set to compete at a very high level with its massively improved features, design, and price point.
So what’s all the excitement about? The new Accent owns the most powerful engine in its class at 138 horsepower and 123 lb-ft of torque, easily exceeding the Honda Fit and Ford Fiesta. Despite achieving this tremendous power, the 1.6 liter engine still attains a segment-leading 40 highway MPG in every Accent model regardless of body style or transmission. Additionally, just when you thought its performance had no room for improvement, the all-new Accent is equipped with an Active Eco button that improves fuel-efficiency by up to 7%.
With fuel prices expected to approach $4.00 per gallon this summer, the addition of the 2012 Accent further solidifies Hyundai as the world leader in innovation and fuel-efficiency across their entire product lineup. We are thrilled for the new Accent and we will have more news as soon as it is released!
